In the meantime, why not revisit my interesting interview with long time Magnum keyboard maestro Mark Stanway for ELOBF back in January 2011 here:

Hello... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! On the same day that BBC Radio 2 played: "At Last", one of those eagerly anticipated tracks from the new Jeff Lynne album: "Long Wave", a video of the track has been posted of said song on YouTube.
The posting cites: "Jeff Lynne's version of 'At Last'. (C) 2012 Big Trilby Records Inc. " but this writer still understands [at the time of writing] that "Mercy Mercy" is still intended to be released as the lead single in the near future [I could be wrong though!]. In the meantime ... enjoy this taste of things to come ... and get your pre-orders in for maximum album chart impact in October!

Hello... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] was born on 2nd February 2009 and 1,298 days later, I'm very humbled to confirm that we achieved the magic figure of 100,000 hits just yesterday [23rd August] at around 7:30PM. In that time have have been not a few gigs; interviews and reviews and a whole host more. I've been asked how I will commemorate the big 100K and I felt it most apt to re-share some of my favourite photographs from those 42 odd months.
Of course, there are many fine musicians who have featured on ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] whom I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting up with - yet! And those include: Thomas Walsh [Pugwash], David Myhr, Gary Frenay [Flashcubes], Michael Laine Hildebrandt [Bubble Gum Orchestra] and Sean Mack Page [Fragile X] amongst not a few others. My thanx are also extended to my ELOBF gig buddy Christian Evans as well as to every single visitor to ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF]. I have many more gigs, reviews and interviews in the works - so to speak - and not a few other features too! So, with those new Jeff Lynne/ELO albums just around the corner, life in the ELOBF universe is getting busy, fruitful and exciting. "Enjoy The Ride" and "Hold On Tight" my friends!

Hello... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Whilst I was attending a family wedding in the Midlands last weekend, Yours Truly KJS had the great pleasure of chatting with Holly Wood who is, of course, the daughter of Move, ELO and Wizzard legend Roy Wood.
We talked about the superb exhibition of Roy Wood art by Australian artist Debra Dee, held earlier this year in Birmingham amongst not a few other topics! Holly also made some quality time to talk to my daughter Rebekah during the evening. It was great to meet up with her new husband Mark too on the night. It has to be said that life in the ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] universe certainly is exciting these days!

A closing ceremony highlighted by the wonderful, iconic "Mr. Blue Sky" booming out "All Over The World" and a remastered new view of John Lennon with a sprinkling of Beatles throughout. ELO Beatles Forever indeed!

Hello... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! 2012 is turning out to be a fine year for buying newly released vinyl [both in 7" and 12" formats] again for the first time in a very long time. Whether it be the 40th Anniversary "First Light" release of "The Electric Light Orchestra" [a.k.a. "No Answer" in the US] by EMI/Harvest or the debut of "The Olympus Sound" by Pugwash on vinyl courtesy of LoJinx or the triple re-release of those classic ELO LP's "Eldorado", "A New World Record" and now "Out Of The Blue" [in beautiful blue vinyl] by Music On Vinyl, it has to be said that there is absolutely no comparison to the thrill of buying records again!
Music On Vinyl have just released OOTB and Yours Truly KJS and ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] has to not only congratulate MoV for the wonderful job that they have done in re-releasing "Out Of The Blue", but also for the attention to detail and the fantastic end product. The sleeve packaging is superb, the inner sleeves perfectly replicate the originals and even the OOTB ELO poster is included. The only thing missing is the classic Jet Records label and that cut-out spaceship!

Hello... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! When ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] roving reporter Pete Reynolds is not checking out ELO [and related] stories for me down in South Devon - such as the continuing court case regarding the death of Mike Edwards - he sends me newspaper cuttings [such as the one above] from the latest edition of the Sunday Mercury. In the above article, Bev Bevan writes candidly about the forthcoming Jeff Lynne album of ELO re-recordings: "Mr. Blue Sky" thus:
"ELO are back in the news, with the revelation that Jeff Lynne is re-recording some of our classic hits. He's been working in the studio where, he says, he's been bringing the benefits of 21st century record techniques to songs we originally released in the 1970's. Among the tracks that will appear on a new album titled Mr. Blue Sky, due for release in October, are Mr. Blue Sky, Evil Woman, Strange Magic, Don't Bring Me Down, Turn To Stone, Showdown, Telephone Line, Livin' Thing, Do Ya, Can't Get It Out Of My Head and 10538 Overture - plus a new song called The Point Of No Return. But here's a memory of the early Electric Light Orchestra days, with Jeff and myself surrounded by Wilf Gibson, Mike Edwards, Colin Walker, Michael de Albuquerque and Richard Tandy."

Hello... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Any artiste who can transform an Eighties Elton John effort into a Bluegrass standard is indeed worthy of note. Yours Truly KJS decided yesterday that it was about time that ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] checked out Paul Parker [but without all those right friends] at one of his acoustic duo gigs [with his wife Adelle] at The Bassa Villa over in Bridgnorth.
And it was a decision that was more than justified too! With Paul's vocals, mandolin, acoustic and steel guitar and Adelle's vocals, harmonica and percussion; we were treated to a superb trawl through folk, blues, rock and even pop classics - all interpreted wonderfully in an intimate, unplugged live session. With an extensive roster that included not only original Paul Parker compositions "Shame" and "Fullness Of Love" [amongst others], the duo performed innovative interpretations of songs by a wide range of artistes from The Who to Bruce Springsteen to The Beatles to The Rolling Stones to The Jayhawks to Dire Straits to Bob Dylan and not few others.
Of particular note were their versions of "The Weight", "Romeo and Juliet", "Dancing In The Dark", "Wild Horses", "Sad Songs [Say So Much]", "Games People Play", "Pink Cadillac", "Here Comes The Sun", "This Is The Life", "Save It For A Rainy Day", "[Mama's Got A] Squeezebox" and "Jolene" - also amongst many others! Both his acoustic duo and the full five piece band are well worth listening to. Find out more by visiting their official web site thus:

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Nearly two years on after news broke of the proposed BBC4 Jeff Lynne Rockumentary, it appears that that this long-awaited two hour has now finally been scheduled for broadcast on Friday 5th October. The original BBC Press Release for BBC4 for Autumn into Winter 2010/2011 stated:
"40 Light Years: Charting the fascinating story of musical genius, singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne, this film celebrates 40 years since ELO's first groundbreaking hit recording. The programme follows the band through their successes, up to their brand new ELO album - their first for almost 10 years. With exclusive access to Jeff Lynne, this documentary charts his story from his early years in Birmingham with cult legends The Idle Race, through to his first UK chart success with The Move. It also investigates his international mega-stardom with ELO and beyond, with The Traveling Wilburys - Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Bob Dylan - Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, The Beatles, Del Shannon, Regina Spektor and many more."
This previous ELOBF article was in the process of being updated with details of the Spin CDs pricing when Yours Truly KJS noticed this statement in the Product Details overview:
"BBC will also air on TV, on the Friday before the release, a 120 minute documentary about Jeff Lynne. The documentary will cover the history and the legacy of the great musician and the influence that he had in the Pop and Rock music for the last 40 years. The Beatles surviving members, plus George Harrison's and Roy Orbison's widows will appear plus Joe Walsh, Tom Petty and many others. The new releases will be covered in full and the documentary also includes the video clip of the single ["Mercy Mercy"] off the new album ["Long Wave"]."
This exciting news is also being carried by our friends at elodiscovery.com and A Jeff Lynne And Related Blog. So there you have it folks: Two CD's, an LP, a two hour BBC Special all in advance of further 2013 releases including a "Live" ELO package as well as those much anticipated upgrades of "Armchair Theatre" and "Zoom" ...

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The official press release containing confirmation of the forthcoming twin Jeff Lynne/ELO releases "Long Wave", lead single "Mercy Mercy" and "Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra" on Big Trilby Records via Frontiers Records is just starting to see the [electric] light of day, so to speak! And rather than just re-post it, Yours Truly KJS thought it better to quote the words of Mr. Jeff Lynne himself regarding these much anticipated albums:
Jeff on "Long Wave"
"I call this new album "Long Wave" because all of the songs I sing on it are the ones heard on long wave radio when I was a kid growing up in Birmingham, England ... These songs take me back to that feeling of freedom in those days and summon up the feeling of first hearing those powerful waves of music coming in on my old crystal set. My dad also had the radio on all the time, so some of these songs have been stuck in my head for 50 years. You can only imagine how great it felt to finally get them out of my head after all these years."
Jeff on "Mr. Blue Sky"
"There was a big reason I wanted to re-record these ELO songs ... When I listen to the old versions they don't sound the way I thought they did when I first wrote and recorded them. I wanted to use the experience I've gained producing records ever since and have a completely new try at them. I'm not saying the old versions aren't good; I like them very much. We were doing our best, but experience and technology also play a big, big part, and these new ones sound much more solid and tight."
"It all comes down to what you truly love doing, and what I love doing is overdubbing and making new sounds out of things that are sometimes quite ordinary on their own, but when you put them together, they make something new ... or something that sounds new. Just discovering things like that musically is a pleasure ... I've been in love with music since I was probably just five years old ... I was made for music then ... and I still am today!"
Please visit either Face The Music and/or the Official ELO web site for the full detail of the press release. ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] supports, endorses and recommends the past, present and future work of Jeff Lynne and, of course, ELO.
